What jobs has your career with Henkel involved?
I began in the Investor Relations department, and then changed over to equity financing. Later I become Project Manager with Henkel Financial Services before gong to London at the beginning of 2004 for 18 months as Finance Manager of the subsidiary there. I came back in July 2005, and have been in Internal Audit here ever since.
What’s the nature of your work with Henkel?
We monitor all processes world-wide that deal with Henkel’s functional or business sectors. Here I’m responsible for marketing, sales and purchasing. Our main issue in each project and each audit is: is there world-wide compliance with Henkel’s standards and where is there need for improvement?
What does your typical working day look like?
There isn’t one. Audits always take about four weeks and then we are of course on site. When the report is ready, we return to Düsseldorf and then comes the next audit. So am I travel all over the world about six months of the year.
What attracts you about the work?
My field of responsibility is international and with each project I get to know Henkel even better. I also like travelling. I keep meeting things I don’t know and new things are always cropping up. Before each new project and each stay abroad, I never know how the audit will run. But so far I have always returned home with a good feeling good about the job that’s been done.
What advice would you give to someone starting out with Henkel?
Don’t tie yourself down to a special field at Henkel too soon. First try out all the possibilities. The corporation really how a lot to offer and there are often unimagined opportunities.
